About Dr Rafael Gaszynski

Dr. Rafael Gaszynski, a highly skilled and accomplished General Surgeon, specializes in the surgical management of diseases affecting the stomach, liver, pancreas, spleen, small intestine and gallbladder. With a practice based in Sydney’s upper north shore, he is dedicated to providing patient-centered care with compassion, communication, and shared decision-making.

Dr. Gaszynski received his medical degree from Jagiellonian University in Poland and completed his internship and basic surgical training through the Royal College of Surgeons in England. He further honed his skills in Australia, where he spent several years in various medical positions, including emergency medicine and aeromedical retrieval with the Royal Flying Doctors.

After obtaining his fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2019, during which he won the clinical committee prize in 2012 for the best performing surgical candidate in Australia and New Zealand.

Dr. Gaszynski completed a three-year post-fellowship program in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary surgery through the Australian and New Zealand Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association Fellowship (ANZHPBA) based at several hospitals in Sydney.

In addition to his expertise in Hepatic Pancreatic and Biliary surgery, Dr. Gaszynski also has extensive experience in upper gastrointestinal surgery, including surgery for reflux disease and diseases of the spleen, small intestine, stomach, and esophagus. He has published several research articles in high-impact journals and is frequently invited to review other surgeons’ research articles and papers as an editor for international journals.

Fluent in English, Afrikaans, and Polish, Dr. Gaszynski is available for both public and private referrals and strives to see patients as soon as possible. He holds several positions, including General and Upper GI Surgeon at Hornsby Ku-ring-ga Hospital and General and Upper GI Surgeon at Sydney Adventist Hospital, NSW.
